Isn't a Narwhal a type of whale? |
Narwhals are very unique whales. The male whale has an upper tooth that grows
into a long spiral tusk. This tusk may reach 7 to 8 feet in length. The tusk
is straight and wonderfully engineered by nature. It has been postulated that
the tooth grows in a spiral manner so that the tusk is
straight and not curved. Narwhals are medium size, bluish-gray whales that grow to
approximately 13 to 16 feet long and weigh 1 to 2 tons. They are rather shy whales
and live in the arctic waters of the North Pole.

Why name an engineering company after a whale? |
Nature is a wonderful and thorough engineer. Engineering companies essentially do the same
task as nature. We look for efficient, simple and practical designs to solve complex
problems and nature is a great mentor. For example, aquatic creatures are streamlined
to reduce drag when swimming through the water. Birds have well designed wings that permit
flight. There are countless other examples.

How do you decide how much my project will cost in terms of Structural Engineering services? |
For current design estimates, please contact our office. We normally do not give quotes
over the telephone. Generally, we develop a written fee and project proposal after the scope
of the work has been clearly defined.

Will your firm engage in work outside of California? |
Yes. We can arrange to do projects anywhere depending on the client's specific needs.

Are you hiring new employees? |
Depending on the project size, we assemble a project-specific design team to accomplish
the necessary tasks. We collaborate and consult with other professionals whenever it is
necessary to do so. When the project has been completed, we dissolve the team until the
next project is available. Smaller projects are handled completely in-house.
